For a supernatural that didn't have a place to go, the ruins on the east end of town were perhaps the best place to reside. Not many people ventured there, and the few that did were usually human teenagers looking for a cheap thrill that would easily be scared out of their britches. Granted, you had to have a means of surviving as well; you had to know what nature was like in all the seasons, and how to cope. This was not something Ro was unaccustomed to. In fact, he preferred the winter, or at least he used to. Since he'd come to Ashmill, however, his outlook on winter had changed. Instead of being able to stalk prey in the open and feed himself, he had to resort to begging for scraps. Most people were hesitant to approach him, or would get wary of him approaching them; he didn't blame them. He was, after all, a fierce-looking and scar-ridden large canine. His human appearance was a little less intimidating, but also a little less likely to find scraps.
Each paw step made a soft crunching noise in the fallen snow. It had been snowing all day, and most of it was easily packed together. The chilly wind nipped at his ears in odd intervals as he maneuvered between buildings that looked as though a huff and a puff would blow them over. It made quite depressed, thinking about how he went from loving being in the wild and able to make ends meet easily, to almost starving in a city he felt uncomfortable in. He knew he had a purpose here, but he hadn't yet found it. The last request from his mother was that he come to this place. Why, he did not know. He'd been here three years, and things had only been worsening. But, he was determined to stick it out until he figured things out.
Ro's dark pelt made it difficult for him to blend in to his surroundings, especially during the day. There were always a few squirrels running around, but Ro didn't have the patience or energy to track one of those pests down, for little more than a snack reward. The weather was messing with his old injuries as well, reminders of his rash-acting past, not that he'd change what he did. He was proud of what he'd done, but at the time he was inexperienced and unknowledgeable of what he had faced, which led to his injuries. Not only did his back left leg cause him to limp, his right shoulder was now giving him fits due to a hostage situation he'd intervened in a few years back before coming to Ashmill. If it wasn't one thing, it was another. He could really go for some meat, even if it was cold. His stomach growled, sounding like a sick duck. Paws dragging and ears not alert, Ro made his way to the porch of what the teenagers of Ashmill were calling the 'haunted house' before flopping down, paws hanging off the edge of the top step, his head resting on his soft paws, eyes darting back and forth, hoping to find someone to follow around and pester who may give him some food.

" Pardon me sir, I meant not to do it." For the many years that Tyne had stayed at Ashmill, the ruins of east end had been a regular haunt, in dragon form, mainly. Rarely did Pilot patrol these ruins, and when they did, their movements were fairly predictable. For a twenty metre long fire-breathing beast, it was the closest he had to a safe haven.
Now was one of the few times he had ventured down here while not in said dragon form. Instead, the blond had clipped a leash onto Neon's collar, squashed a couple of sandwiches into a bag which he slung around a shoulder, and then headed out.
Beyond the looming figures of high-rise buildings, the sky was pleasantly clear - no sign of those dreadfully heavy clouds which brought about a few feet of snow. While the dirt paths were dusted lightly with said snow, the trip wasn't difficult.
Somewhere along the way, Tyne had unclipped the lead, letting the collie roam about freely. Occasionally, the tan and white head would pop up over a sprawling expanse of powdered long grass, teeth bared in a doggy grin before loping ahead.
While the wind nipped at any exposed skin in a manner less than comfortable, the blond strolled on ahead as if he didn't mind at all. Of course, without a cup of coffee prior to this walk, his movement would have slowed, become considerably more sluggish. Which he blamed on the draconic side. Blasted reptiles and their cold-bloodedness.
Tyne broke away from the path without truly noticing, his thoughts wandering and green eyes more drawn to the wintery wonderland around him than the path. The little dirt track which led to the ruins was an obscure one - few people came here in general, and even less so during winter. Undeterred, the blond moved ahead, brushing past overgrown branches with ease. That being said, when in dragon form the branches were much less of a hindrance.
A brown scarf wrapped loosely around his neck, a dark green beanie squashed over messy blond hair, a similarly coloured jacket over a plaid shirt and jeans- Tyne looked fashionable, but not fit to be walking around in knee deep snow... which he was. And unaffected, what's more. Neon popped out of the grass not too far ahead of him, panting happily before loping off once more.
This time, Neon had apparently found someone else. A rather fierce-looking, scarred canine lying on the porch. As usual, the collie rushed in head first, tail wagging madly. While keeping an eye out in case Neon did something stupid, Tyne chose a spot on a gnarled tree root, brushing some snow off before plopping himself down contentedly.

Breathing slowly, it was hard to tell at a distance whether or not if the canine on the porch was even awake or alive. His eyes had closed and not a muscle in his body was moving. However, his ears perked up as he heard the approach of not one, but two beings. Utilizing his nose, he sniffed them out, and came to the conclusion that one was a canine of much less mysteriousness, and the other... smelled somewhat human, but did not smell right. It smelled... off. Another shapeshifter of sorts, perhaps? Who knew. Not getting his hopes up, he kept his head down, but his yellow eyes stared unblinking in the direction the two were coming from. Unfortunately, much to his dismay, the furry four-legged man's-best-friend decided to play it friendly and rushed up to greet him. Instinct caused his muscles to tense up and his hair to stand up defensively. He cut off the growl that thought about rising in his throat, instead turning it into a kind of huff at the sudden greeting from the collie.
What surprised Ro most, was the fact that whoever the owner of the collie was, did nothing about him. Normally, people on walks with their dogs one; didn't have as friendly of critters, and two; if they were this friendly, they'd immediately call them back. This gentleman was content to sit back and watch whatever happened, which further supported Ro's assumption that he wasn't what he seemed. Knowing that the human wouldn't be able to understand him, he turned his attention to the collie. <You're about the friendliest bunch I've seen around here. Usually people turn the opposite direction when they see me, whether man or beast,> he said, heaving himself up to sit on his haunches. He favored his right side, leaning completely on his left front leg instead. His yellow eyes darted back to the human. He felt rather uneasy, like a dog ready to be euthanized would feel around a veterinarian. His heart rate picked up a bit, and his senses began working to their full extent now, now that he was nervous. The collie was probably accustomed to this individual, but that didn't mean he was.
Throughout the course of his nervousness, somewhere along the way, he had begun to salivate. Swallowing the saliva that had collected in his mouth, he licked his chops, catching the faint scent of food that the individual was carrying. If he were certain he were a complete human, he'd try his luck, but until he was sure he wouldn't sprout razor-sharp claws or have a venomous bite or something similar, he wasn't going to set on paw closer to him.

" Pardon me sir, I meant not to do it." Even when in his human form, Tyne could come across as overly confident, especially when dealing with situations such as these. A regular human would have called their over-friendly pet back and sat a safe distance away, instead of happily plonking themselves so bloody close by.
The yellow eyes seemed to shine with an uncanny intelligence, something that caused the blond to raise his guard a little more. This was definitely no ordinary stray dog, it seemed. From what he could see, Neon showed no signs of stopping the overwhelming friendliness. Oh well.
Now sitting comfortably, ears pricked slightly towards the other, the sable collie contentedly curled a bushy, fox-like tail around his legs. <Really?> The white, now slightly grey after his gambolling around in the grass, ruff puffed out slightly with pride. <Guess most owners don't turn into big fire-lizards too.>
While the silly puppy was cheerful telling the other canine about his dragon-shifting owner, said dragon-shifting Englishman had wiggled around to find a comfortable spot, and upon finding one, extracted a slightly squashed sandwich from his bag and started to munch happily. When glancing over at Neon to make sure that the collie hadn't got himself into any more trouble, the blond had noted how thin the other canine was.
Without much warning, Tyne broke off part of said sandwich. Plain ham and some lettuce, neatly squished between two pieces of equally unremarkable white bread. "Hey, catch. Not for you, Neon." With that, the blond pitched the sandwich towards the two dogs. Neon's head swivelled to follow the sandwich, but apart from flattening his ears slightly, made no move towards it.
Green eyes watched with mild curiousity, as Neon then proceeded to trot back over, nosing Tyne's leg and lifting a paw, offering it in hope of some exchange which would result in the collie having a very nice snack.

What the collie said puzzled Ro. A big fire-lizard? Racking his brain, Ro tried to remember anything from the few books he'd read that might explain was a 'big fire-lizard' was. He knew that it was obviously not something that was normal for the present time. Anything that was able to change form was not normal, but nowadays, in this area, it did seem to be the norm, contrary to what others might say. Normal or not normal; po-tay-to, po-tah-to. It depended on your perspective. During his train of thought, his mind wandered to a 'children's book' he'd read, called 'Puff the Magic Dragon.' Then it hit him: was this gentleman a... dragon? Ro had been known to make deductive leaps based on very little evidence, though being proven right, or wrong, was difficult in most cases.
Curious about his possible fine, he thought about questioning the collie, but decided not to. He didn't want to straight out say to the collie, 'Hey, I'm not a dog. I'm a human who can turn into a wolf, so your owner and me, we're sort of alike,' and risk the possible repercussions. While the collie seemed fine by it with the gentleman, Ro wouldn't know how the collie would react to learning of his secret. In this case, like many others, it was better to play it safe than sorry.
When the gentleman broke off a part of the sandwich, Ro thought it too good to be true. In the moment, Ro learned that the collie's name was Neon. He was still unsure about this gentleman, and as the food flew through the air, he caught it easily in his mouth, but before scarfing it down like he would have, he set it down next to him, inspecting each piece thoroughly with his nose. Other than it being a plain ham and lettuce sandwich, there was nothing else. No 'secret ingredients' that would have included things like poison or drugs. Unless there was a scentless chemical in it that he was unaware of... Ro was going to take his chances. In one swift motion, he'd pitched the sandwich back into the air, caught it in his mouth, and swallowed it. It momentarily relieved his stomach, momentarily being a few seconds, before it let out another rrrrrgggrrrrrlll noise. Well, better make use of my begging tactics... for now, this guy seems okay... Ro thought.
With noticeable hesitation, Ro began approaching Tyne. His head was low, tail between his legs. He had a noticeable limp from his left hind leg, and was also favoring his right front leg. He inched closer to Tyne, not about to get as close as Neon was to the gentleman. He let out a small whine and forced his tail to wag a bit, his deep, yellow eyes staring up at Tyne from a few yards away as he held his position. <This is so embarrassing, you have no idea,> Ro muttered to Neon.

" Pardon me sir, I meant not to do it." The blond watched as the scarred canine inspected the sandwich diligently, lips curving into a slight smile as the canine wolfed the food down, then came asking for more. Neon had yet to move, one white paw still poking Tyne's leg insistently.
Neon had yet to detect any signs of abnormalities, for lack of a better word, in his new acquaintance, treating the other like he would another dog. Triangular ears pricked up as the scarred wolf-dog approached, tongue lolling to the side and mouth open in a friendly gesture.
There was a reason Tyne had brought along more than one sandwich, and this was exactly it. This time, he set his own sandwich on his lap, retrieving another and broke it in half, tossing it to each canine in turn. Neon, of course, was quick to wolf down his own part, but very politely stayed away from whatever was thrown the other way.
Neon, meanwhile, gave the doggy equivalent of a shrug, now sated with that treat. The collie sat fairly quietly, looking about curiously before spotting a squirrel. There was a rustle and when Tyne next looked down, Neon had already run off, racing amongst the long grass chasing a squirrel he couldn't quite see. Which left him alone with the strange wolf-dog.
His bright green gaze was cursory, sweeping over once before returning to his own sandwich and munching contentedly. Tyne noted the limp, idly wondering where said canine had got it from. Well, he referred to the creature before him as a regular canine but... "You aren't a normal one, are ye?"

Ro couldn't help but give a few genuine wags of his tail as the stranger decided to give him some more food. This time, he broke down the half of the sandwich he'd received into a few bites, taking time to enjoy and savor it. It wasn't exactly filling, nor was it the hot meat he'd daydreamed about, but it was better than nothing. Observing Neon dash after a squirrel, Ro was half-tempted to assist with the chase, but refrained from doing so. He'd likely end up going for the kill and not just to play around. Who knows how well that would go over with the collie. And, as far as he knew, he'd been fooling the collie as to what he actually was. However, he almost regretted not going with the collie, as he was left alone with the gentleman that was the collie's owner. Well, this is awkard thought Ro. But, he was a 'dog' right now, technically, so he played the part. Instead of looking around awkwardly like he would in his human form, he simply held the gaze of the man. He hadn't paid enough attention before, but the bright green eyes were captivating. You aren't a normal one, are ye?That question hit Ro like a ton of bricks. Well, he hadn't fooled this gentleman, that was for sure. However, he hadn't outright called him out on it. And, even if he did, what would his reasoning be? That he was more cautious than a regular canine? That would just show greater intelligence, with a possible past that would have made him that way; that's what Ro would assume someone would assume. How was he going to respond to that? Well, only one way to confirm this stranger's suspicion. Turning his back to the stranger, Ro began pawing at the snow, clearing out a somewhat shallow area. What he was doing may have looked odd, but there was a method to his madness. Using the front leg he favored, he began an almost hopping-like motion, moving from left to right, moving his right paw in a certain way along the way. When he was finished, he backed up, went around whatever he'd just done, and sat behind it, staring at Tyne. In the snow, 'written' out, was a message to Tyne. I COULD SAY THE SAME ABOUT YOU Ro slowly laid down, bracing himself, but also ready to bolt if needed. He'd divulged one of his secrets; his ability to not only understand everything a human said, but his ability to write in English, for the most part, given he had something to scratch into. His ears perked forward, and it was obvious he was on high alert, ready to react appropriately after letting this particular cat out of the bag.

" Pardon me sir, I meant not to do it." For a moment, he thought maybe he was simply going mad. Were his instincts just messing around, the cold making him jump to odd conclusions? If it were, it certainly wasn't the first time that had happened. However, when the canine started his odd movements, Tyne had watched intently, green eyes alight with rapt attention.
I COULD SAY THE SAME ABOUT YOU It took him a moment to read and process the words, his mouth falling open ever so slightly as he did so. The Brit didn't move, simply freezing in place. Not just a simple stopping of movement. He didn't breathe, blink nor did a single muscle move. His presence also faded away ever so slightly, enough for him to fade away in a crowd but out here, it was rather ineffective save for a brief moment of eerieness where the man seemed more than human.
And then he began to laugh. The blond's laugh was an honest one, rich and almost melodious. "It took you a few minutes to find out what people haven't found out in a few hundred years." Even as he spoke, the laughter had died out, but a grin remained on his face.
"I don't suppose you know what I am?" His question was honest and curious, now studying the canine with a new found interest as he finished up the remainder of his own sandwich, then fished the last one out. I mean, the sandwiches weren't very big, they were quite small in fact. It made sense to bring a few. Breaking off another half, Tyne tossed it to the not-quite-dog before leaning back and continuing to munch on his own, awaiting an answer if the other allowed.

Whatever it was that Ro thought he might expect, it was nothing like what actually happened. The gentleman seemed intent at first. Surprised, perhaps. He was frozen in place, perhaps at the shock that a furry four-legged critter had just wrote a message to him in the snow, in perfectly clear English. Ro’s own yellow eyes observed the not-so-human gentleman intently, having a similar pose; the only difference is that Ro was actually breathing. And then, there it was. He actually laughed. It was Ro’s turn to think things through. Tilting his head slightly, he pondered the reaction. But then, he began processing what the blond gentleman had said. It took you a few minutes to find out what people haven’t found out in a few hundred years. So, he was right, then. And Neon, the being’s dog, was probably right. What, exactly, this being was, was somewhat of a mystery. He could throw some guesses out there, but the only logical one, after what Neon had said, would be, well, a dragon. Ro didn’t know anything about actual dragons; just what he’d read in a couple of kids’ books. Even after he’d finished his laughing, a smile remained on his face. It made Ro a little awkward but slightly more relaxed at the same time. Then came the actual question of whether or not Ro knew what he was. Was he going to play dumb, or continue to try and impress this being? The cat was already out of the bag… might as well try to come off as intelligent as possible, Ro decided. Before Ro could get to pawing out his answer, he realized more food was coming his way. Gladly accepting it, he raised himself up on his hind legs and caught it in the air, chewing slowly as he used his tail to sweep over the old message, in essence making it similar to that of a whiteboard. Taking care to finish the sandwich before he began his odd hopping motions again, he created a somewhat larger area to prepare for a somewhat larger response. This time, it took considerably longer for Ro to get a response, due to the longer response. The odd hopping motions and paw movements continued, time seeming to slow down as the anticipated message was pawed out. Finally, Ro finished, and began to retrace his steps, careful not to step in any of the message. He returned to the top of the message as he had last time, but this time, flopped down on his belly. He wasn’t accustomed to writing messages like this, and his back leg was starting to get more stiff than usual. The message pawed out this time read: I WAS NOT SURE AT FIRST, BUT NEON CONFIRMED MY SUSPICIONS NEON DESCRIBED YOU AS A BIG FIRE-LIZARD, AND THERE IS ONLY ONE LOGICAL EXPLANATION BUT IT STILL SEEMS A BIT FARFETCHED DRAGON?

" Pardon me sir, I meant not to do it." The canine's actions caused him a little worry at first, but the smile remained firmly intact, his face not betraying a single stray emotion. For a short moment, Tyne thought that the wolf was going to bolt, but alas nothing quite happened.
Really, just a few minutes and the other had already found out? Had his act dropped, or was this canine just really smart? Silently thinking through possibilities, Tyne arrived at the conclusion that Neon had told him.
He watched with the same curiousity, this time a little more intense. Remembered to breathe, too. Upon reading the answer, and also finding out that his suspicions had been confirmed, the blond clapped his gloved hands together softly in quiet applause.
"Absolutely correct," the Brit grinned again. For the shortest moment, his green eyes glowed, the pupils contracting rapidly to the reptilian slit before dilating back to normal. "I rescued Neon from a burning shed during a wildfire, so he's pretty familiar with my dragon form."
"I suppose you have a name? I'm Tyne, if Neon hasn't told you already." By this time, he had finished up his sandwich, crumpling up the wrappers and stuffing them back into the bag so that he could properly dispose of them later.

Ro couldn't believe his ears. Here he was, talking to an actual dragon. It was one thing to guess and be told he was correct, but it was the brief moment that the gentleman's eyes resembled more of a reptile than a man, that made him truly believe. Well, it seemed pretty farfetched to call him a wolfblood. When he was in human form, he could do a similar thing; show his wolf eyes. Not only that, but he could extend his nails and teeth as well, but that gave the obvious look of something not human, and looked more like one of the old spinoffs of 'Wolfman' or something, in all honesty. Feeling like he was learning private and privileged information, Ro made a note to return the favor, to an extent, if so requested. If he could avoid showing his human self, he would. But if the questions kept coming, he'd almost have to, to prevent from getting too exhausted from the unaccustomed awkward movements of writing messages in the snow. Upon hearing how the two met, Ro let out an awkward noise; it seemed to be an attempted 'hmm' but turned out sounding like a mmmrmmm instead; it was his attempt at a tone of approval, but, well, it was hard to convey when one couldn't communicate properly. With a huff and a heave, Ro pulled himself to his feet again to erase the message, add some new snow to the area, and begin pawing out a new response to Tyne's question, though it seemed as though he were adding on, judging by the length of the message and how long he was taking. He was also going considerably slower than he had the previous two times. Eventually, he finished his message, but this time only moved to the side before flopping down, rolling over on his back, legs hanging loosely in the air. HEROICS. WORK BETTER FOR SOME THAN FOR OTHERS GLAD NEON HAD YOU THERE FOR HIM RO What Ro had meant by the 'heroics work better for some than for others' was the couple of times he'd tried to play hero and, well, not exactly come out on top. [[ heh, it's fine xD most of mine is just filler stuff... sometimes i feel full of muse and have better quality; other times, not so much. it's all about quality, not quantity; and i feel like my quality is lacking as of late x.x ]]

" Pardon me sir, I meant not to do it." A smile curled his lips into another pleasant expression at the awkward noise, slightly amused at the attempt. While Tyne was definitely a friendly guy, not too many of his conversations lasted long - people tended to go back to whatever they were doing after ordering and waiting for their coffee.
As the canine once again laboured over the writing of his answer and then promptly flopped over, Tyne felt a little guilty for asking so much. Writing by using legs did seem like a very tiring job to do.
Heroics, huh. Tyne had spent most of his life simply doing whatever pleased him, come to think of it. Heroic actions had simply been whenever it 'was convenient'. The dragon would never put himself in mortal danger for something that didn't directly involve him.
Saving Neon, then unnamed, was part of the latter. The place had been abandoned at the slightest bit of fire, and with the forest being so bloody dry, it had lit as easily as if gasoline had been poured on it. So while in dragon form, Tyne had swooped in and carried a box of collie puppies to safety. He had given them away to good homes, but Neon had stayed.
"Well," the blond shook stray thoughts out of his head, grinning. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Ro."
