Name - Project Genesis
Duration - 45-50 years (total to present)
Status - Discontinued (still active due to surviving members)

Extensive genetic modification was done in order to isolate samples of DNA and manipulate it to better suit the intended needs. Sections were deleted that were suspected to be linked to emotional bases such as that of mercy and compassion, although how successful the method was is something that a few scholars leave up for debate. Genes from various animals were instead adapted to provide boosts in all senses, as well as increased strength, speed, agility, dexterity, balance, and endurance. Some subjects reported a lack of feeling, either emotionally or physically, and had to be subject to further manipulations, with lesser degrees of success.
Most importantly, however, is the ability of subjects to later be able to adopt the form of whatever animal whose DNA markers were used as the base. This change produces an animal that is larger than it would be in nature with a few exceptions (such as that of an elephant, likely due to some loose concept of conservation of mass). The ability of the human mind to rationalize and perform tasks remains unhindered, though human speech is not possible due to the change in the vocal cord makeup. This form will emerge at different times for different individuals, but following the first appearance (which cannot be brought out by stress or other stiumli), it can be adopted at will.
Many participants also recieved additional genetic manipulations that had nothing to do with Project Genesis. In addition, specimens were raised almost entirely in laboratory settings and given harsh training parameters to further nurture the developments fostered by nature, usually through methods with questionable ethical measures. The Genesis Project, began 19XX, is a classified set of experiments carried out with the funding of Pilot. Originally designed to create the ultimate soldier, the director, NAME REDACTED, is the sole surviving core member active with the project. Despite being dubbed an initial success, later instabilities have made it unreasonable to continue. The program's later feasibility will depend upon how well the first specimen, Subject F, reacts and performs, as well as the ability to perhaps clone Subject F at a later date.
The project was terminated officially following the discovery that several specimens had begun to be trapped in their animal forms and showed no signs of human intelligence. Upon further investigation, it appeared that creations of the Genesis Project would slowly lose their humanity to the mind of a crazed animal, attacking anything that happened to get in their way, and this loss could only be prevented by finding and marking a "pack", which consists of at least three mates. It is speculated this loss of humanity only begins after contact is made with one potential mate and can be accelerated with contact with additional mates, though this has not been confirmed.
Attempts to salvage the project with alternative mates were unsuccessful, resulting in the death of three subjects and euthanization of more than half of the specimens still available. Further experimentation had since been halted, and only the bare minimum required to sustain and continue current specimens, such as that of Subject F and other "successful" products of the Genesis Project.
